The Best Vampire Movies of All Time
Vampire Movies
Introduction
Vampires are one of the most popular horror sub-genres, because they're creepy and mysterious. But not all vampires are created equal—some are good, some evil, and some just plain weird. We've put together a list of our favorite vampire movies here so you can get to know them better!
Dracula
Dracula, the vampire
The 1931 film Dracula was based on the book Dracula by Bram Stoker. It was directed by Tod Browning and starred Bela Lugosi as Count Dracula. The movie was made by Universal Pictures, and it was released in 1931.
The Lost Boys
The Lost Boys is a 1987 horror film starring Jason Patric, Corey Haim and Kiefer Sutherland. It was directed by Joel Schumacher and focuses on a group of vampires who move to a small town where they start feeding on the local teenagers.
The film is based on Ira Levin's 1977 novel The Boys From Brazil, which was later made into an American television series called "Vampire Chronicles".
Blade
Directed by Stephen Norrington
Released in 1998
Starring Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson and Stephen Dorff
Plot: Blade is a half-vampire who hunts vampires and saves humans from them
Salem's Lot
The movie adaptation of Stephen King's 1977 novel is a faithful homage to the book, with some notable exceptions. The film opens on Halloween night in small-town Maine and goes through the night as vampires begin to attack people and animals alike. Although there are some memorable scenes in this film—including one scene where David Soul runs away from an angry mob while carrying his pet cat—it feels like it could've been made better with a little more polish around its edges. If you're looking for something that's similar but not quite like Salem's Lot then check out A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984).
What We Do in the Shadows
What We Do in the Shadows is a mockumentary about vampires living in New Zealand. It was written and directed by Taika Waititi, who you might recognize as the guy whose previous work includes Boy, Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows.
It stars Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) as Vladislav, Jonathan Brugh as Klemmer, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer as Nadja, Taika's cousin (and brother to Jermaine) Hayden Szeto...and so on.
Daybreakers
Daybreakers is a vampire movie that stars Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe. It's about vampires who have depleted the human blood supply and are trying to find a new source of blood. The main character is a vampire named John who is trying to find a cure for vampirism after being infected with the disease himself.
30 Days of Night
The movie is based on a comic book, and stars Josh Hartnett and Melissa George as vampire hunters who are sent to Alaska to investigate reports of an outbreak. The vampires are actually Inuit people—not undead, but rather a virus that turns humans into vampires.
30 Days of Night was released in 2007 and received mixed reviews from critics, but it has become somewhat of an underground classic among horror fans because it's one of the few vampire movies not set in Victorian England or German castles.
Let Me In
Let Me In is a story about a young boy who befriends a vampire child. It was released in 2010, and stars Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloe Moretz.
It's set in modern times and follows Owen (Smit-McPhee) as he struggles to come to terms with his new life as an orphaned vampire after being adopted by Abby (Moretz).
Many different types of vampire movies
There are many different types of vampire movies, so it's important to know what they all have in common.
For example, Dracula is the classic vampire movie. It was first released in 1931 and has been remade several times since then. In fact, it's one of the most popular horror films ever made!
Other great examples include The Lost Boys (1987), Blade (1998), Salem's Lot (1979) and What We Do in the Shadows (2014). These films focus on a group of friends who survive after being bitten by vampires while at summer camp together during childhood years - something which happens every year! They must learn how to deal with their newfound abilities while trying not only survive but also thrive against their inhuman foe."
Conclusion
With all that's happened in the world of vampires over the last few decades, it's no wonder there are so many great movies about them. They've become popular subjects for filmmakers who want insight into the dark side of humanity and its oldest fears. We hope you'll see one or more of these films this Halloween season!
