Introduction

What makes a guest appearance memorable? Is it the character or the actor who plays them? Or maybe it's the setting or the scene? Well, whatever it is, we want to see more of it!

 

 We love seeing our favorite celebrities on screen, from Hollywood to Bollywood. And some of the biggest names in entertainment history have graced us with their presence over the years. From the greats like Tom Hanks, Will Smith, and Bill Murray to the quirky likes of Steve Martin and David Letterman, these are the top ten guest appearances in movies and television.

 

 When it comes to guest appearances in movies and TV shows, the actors are often the stars of the show. They bring life into the story and engage audiences through their unique characters. But sometimes the real star of the movie is the location where the scenes take place.

Dominic Monaghan in "Lost"

You may not know this, but the actor who played Charlie Pace on "Lost" was also a member of a band called Drive Shaft. The band had two members: Dominic Monaghan and Matthew Sweet (who you might recognize from his role as Ricky Van Veen in "Mean Girls").

Monaghan is best known for his role as Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, as well as other roles like Boromir and Falstaff. He also appeared in "The Young Victoria" with Keira Knightley and Rachel Weisz; I'm sure you can imagine what happened there!

Monaghan's character Charlie Pace was an important part of our favorite show's first four seasons before being killed off at the end of season five by Desmond Hume (Henry Ian Cusick). And since this was before our time—when we were still watching Friends like everyone else—this means that we missed seeing these characters come back together again after their respective deaths...or did they?

Scarlett Johanson in "Friends"

Scarlett Johansson played Rachel's best friend Jill Green in the first season of Friends. She was a recurring character for the entire run of the series, appearing in 11 episodes and making an appearance as Ross' love interest at one point.

Johanson had previously appeared on sitcoms like The Nanny and even played herself in Iron Man 2 (which you can watch on Netflix). She also starred alongside Robert Downey Jr. as Natasha Romanov/Black Widow in Avengers: Age of Ultron—a role that earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress!

George Clooney in "Roseanne"

The episode "The Computer Wore Menace Shoes" is where George Clooney guest starred as Dr. Mark, who was the doctor that Roseanne and Jackie went to for birth control in their first pregnancy. This character only appeared in one episode of the series, but it's still worth mentioning because it's an interesting role for him to play!

Quentin Tarantino in "My Name Is Earl"

Quentin Tarantino, the king of violent, bloody movies, has made several appearances on TV and in movies. In 2000 he appeared as a car salesman in "My Name Is Earl." In 2003 he played a similar character in an episode of "Breaking Bad." And then there's his most famous film role: Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction.

In 2008 he appeared as himself on The Simpsons episode titled "Marge vs. the Monorail" when Homer buys a T-shirt from him at Kwik-E-Mart (the store where Krusty's montage is set).

J.K. Simmons in "Party Down"

J.K. Simmons was in the show "Party Down" as Ron, a character who is a very high powered agent and one of the main characters. He is arrogant and good at his job; he has a lot of power and influence over others, but none of them know it!

This guest appearance was originally planned for Season Three, but because it didn't get filmed until later on in production season four (2001–2002), Simmons wasn't able to appear until then either due to scheduling conflicts or budget issues—or both!

Al Pacino in "The Sopranos"

Al Pacino played a psychiatrist in the HBO series "The Sopranos," and his performance is one of the best guest appearances in movies and TV shows.

Pacino made sure that his character didn't look like a stereotype, but instead appeared as real life. He did this by having him speak with an Italian accent, which gave him more credibility as he interacted with Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini).

Neil Patrick Harris in "How I Met Your Mother"

Neil Patrick Harris played the character of Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother. He appeared in multiple episodes and was also the host of the Emmy Awards in 2014.

Neil Patrick Harris has been nominated for an Emmy Award for his portrayal as Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother.

Charlize Theron in "Arrested Development"

Charlize Theron played the role of an actress who is hired to play the role of Lindsay Bluth in Arrested Development. She was nominated for an Emmy for her performance, and she also won an Oscar for Monster.

Madonna in "Will & Grace"

Madonna guest starred on the show Will & Grace as herself. She played herself, and she attended a party at the apartment of Will Truman (Eric McCormack) and his boyfriend, Jack McFarland (Sean Hayes).

Julia Roberts in "Friends"

Julia Roberts appeared in the episode "The One with the Boobies." She played a stripper who gets hit on by Ross and then winds up falling in love with him. While this was a fun episode to watch, it's also worth mentioning that Julia Roberts was nominated for an Emmy for her performance in this episode.
